AB has developed ReVOCs, an advanced biogas pre-treatment technology designed to efficiently remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) without continuously consuming activated carbon and with minimal energy use.
The biogas pre-conditioning process involves the removal of moisture, H₂S and VOCs, and adsorption of VOCs on in-line regenerable activated carbon with an associated regeneration system, all essential steps to meet grid specifications and protect downstream equipment. Traditionally, VOC removal is carried out through activated carbon filtration, which becomes exhausted over time and requires off-site regeneration or disposal, leading to high costs and logistical complexity.
ReVOCs overcomes these limitations thanks to a technology for on-site carbon regeneration.
With an abatement efficiency of over 85% and the possibility of disposing of VOCs through oxidation, ReVOCs optimizes the performance of biogas valorization plants both in the case of electricity generation and biomethane production systems.
Reduction in operating costs (lower consumption of activated carbon)
Lower frequency of carbon replacement operations
Guaranteed operational continuity regardless of activated carbon logistics
Safety of carbon condition (no contamination from other sites with off-site regenerated carbon)
The technology preserves the strengths of AB solutions: modularity, ease of installation, simple maintenance, and high efficiency.
Applied to high biogas flow rates (> 800 Nm³/h) and high VOCs content, ReVOCs reduces operational issues related to activated carbon management and helps make biomethane production plants more sustainable, resilient, and high-performing.
With ReVOCs, AB supports companies in the energy transition, combining innovation, efficiency, and sustainability into a concrete and easily integrable solution.
